Artist's Statement

I have always enjoyed being creative whether it's drawing, painting or making things. My current practice has evolved whilst working on paintings of elephants after a trip to Zambia in 2013.

Through my artwork I wish to convey my feelings for the elephant and my concern for their survival. I plan to develop themes and issues of loss, greed, cause and effect and change.

Initially I mainly worked with acrylic paint on canvas, building up the image using many layers of paint. I am now painting on a range of surfaces and introducing texture to areas of a painting or sometimes the whole surface. Experimentation is an important part of my practice. I enjoy the challenge of working on a new piece, trying to get across my response to the subject. Sometimes a painting works, others are not so successful but I can learn from the 'failures' too.
